At precisely 1 pm in the afternoon TCC lessons began. Miss Anita looked eager to start as she prepared her materials and shooed us to our seats. This was when I noticed the missing number of people. It turned out 2 members on this trip had to go to the hospital for various reasons. It was no wonder the class was more quiet today, I guess its mainly because everybody was so worried. Everybody looked exhausted and frankly I too was struggling to concentrate on what Miss Anita had began reciting. The properties of colours. It consisted of 4 factors; hue, value, intensity and temperature. The lesson was interesting after we all got past our drowsiness( I believe most of us woke up at 11am). we learnt the difference between saturation and shades. We learnt what was granulating colours and how to "lift" paint from our artwork. The sad truth is my work is still very much a watery mess, it looks like I have a long way to go before I can be proficient in water colours. We practiced tones and learnt how to identify colours in an object. It means that perhaps the clay cup may be white, but we should not only use white to paint. If one was to look more closely there is actually shades of gray on the clay cup. The five hours flew quickly by as I focused on my work. The IS lessons were to start at 7pm and it was 6 pm already. There was enough time to get a quick lunch before lessons commence. The entire OIP group headed for cultural street in hopes to get a quick bite and to see Millie. Alas! Millie can not be found and we only had 30 minutes to eat . I ordered a kebab and it was so good. It tasted better than subway as the bread was crispy and the vegetables and tomatoes so fresh and juicy. The meat itself was smokey and flavourful , dinner was indeed enjoyable for me. We rushed off to class to began our IS lesson.
IS lesson was about the 3 Gorges Dam. The 3 gorges are Wu ( the deepest), Xiling( the longest) and Qutang( the most beautiful). The professor taught us the history behind the 3 gorges and how it played a great part in the chinese literature and the arts. Many famous poets like Li Bai have written poems about these gorges. he explained some of the problem in how many opposed to the construction of the dam. The loss of animal diversity and their habitat would be a big ecological loss furthermore many people would have to leave their homes. Professor Huang showed us images captured by foreigners before the dam was constructed. The images were so beautiful to think thats its all lost now makes me fear that the future generation would be left with nothing much to appreciate and see. That would be a very gray life.
