The morning as usual is like a mini battle, the constant struggle to fall back to sleep is overshadowed by the knowledge that your roommate would not rise from hibernation unless a strong wake up call was in order. Being late was not an option and I bruised myself, trying to organise and plan the items to prepare for assessment 1.

Today lesson was short and moved surprising fast as we went through our previous works . Miss Anita went through a quick revision about composition and accessed our works, she gave valuable feedback and taught us how to make our painting seem light and softer using a damp brush to scrape off the dark areas in the painting.

An impromptu visit to the school of fine arts at Huazhong university, made me excited to learn their lessons and have a view of their artwork. It is there when I learn about the intensity of their work and how talented the students in the fine arts course were. The talent of the students here is at a completely different level from us however I am actually more motivated to be like them. The sculptures and works such as the oil paintings were excellent and so skillful  and I had an insight of digital prep board presentation. A part of me wish that we could have lessons with the seniors in China as I have many questions to ask Meng Ying my student leader . We went around looking at many of the exhibition and classes and if we did have a shared lesson with the students , the favored lesson would be sculpting as it looks so interesting to mold and attempt intricate details on clay. It was not long later when we had to leave to prepare our assessment 1 after a quick lunch.

Assignment 1 was a laborious process.

  1. Choose a good location
  2. have three thumbnails
  3. apply the different techniques of what makes a good composition
  4. Apply the skills that we have learnt
  5.  Time management
In the list the 3 most tedious were the actual painting on the A3 paper and drawing of the  3 thumbnails, and lastly managing time. I can honestly say that for this assignment  I have tried my best and I hope that with more practice I would be able to quickly improve. The last week was tiring and I believed everybody wanted to unwind and have some fun  therefore we went of to Gongpu to Ice-skate. We took public transport in the form of the bus to Gongpu. It was quite an experience taking the bus, unlike Singpore the bus had no air-con and everybody was crammed together in such a small space. The bus ride was short but eventful as we blurred past, food vendors and small restaurants. We arrived in Gongpu, alighting at the bus stop we weaved past vendors who were trying to sell their wares . The familiar odour of stinky tofu filled my nose as we head to the shopping mall. The ice-skating ring was situated on the 5 floor. The admission fee was reasonable 50 yuan for 2 hrs and soon we started to unwind and relax and taught some of the other OIP members how to skate. Overall , the day was great and fun and I hope to visit cultural street soon to check on Millie(the cat).
